Myself, Richard Lam, and Ayesha Moghal entered a student competition to design infill housing for Toronto hosted in conjunction with the German Embassy and were selected as one of the teams from U of T. We’ll be heading to Ottawa next week to participate in a series of workshops led by German building experts. After that, we’ll be submitting to hopefully go to Berlin in February.
In short, the design is to add more residential units to the Downtown Toronto area by designing a new building typology for the long skinny commercial/residential properties that are common in Toronto. The project pairs up two adjacent properties in order to achieve greater efficiency in circulation, density, and create a raised streetscape in the middle of the project where residents access their units.
Here is board we submitted and a couple closeups.
